OVH Group to Acquire VMware vCloud Air Business

We are excited to unveil that OVH Group is announcing its intent to acquire the vCloud Air business from VMware, operating the new service as vCloud Air Powered by OVH. With this update, customers will continue to benefit from the power of vCloud Air but with the greater choice OVH offers across its data centers on four continents.

OVH U.S. will leverage VMware’s hybrid cloud technology and closely partner with VMware on go-to-market strategy and ensuring customer support remains a top priority.

A Global Partnership

OVH is one of the largest global Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) providers, with more than one million customers and 260,000 servers deployed. A long-time VMware vCloud Air Network partner, OVH has been recognised as “Service Provider of the Year” by VMware four straight years. Both companies collaborated to bring Software-defined Data Center (SDDC) as a Service to market in 2016.

vCloud Air customers will now be able to select from OVH’s 26 global data centers across four continents and experience faster workloads through the company’s thousands of miles of dark fiber and 32 points of presence worldwide. OVH will also expand vCloud Air Powered by OVH to all of its green data centers.

OVH recently announced its U.S.-based business, bringing vertical integration of data center infrastructure and innovations in water-cooling technology to the largest cloud hosting market. vCloud Air will serve as a key component of its U.S. business.

The Perfect Match and a Seamless Transition

Since its inception, VMware vCloud Air has serviced many enterprise customers looking to move to a hybrid cloud model. By delivering a truly hybrid cloud experience, vCloud Air is uniquely positioned to solve critical IT challenges including a reliable disaster recovery option, an efficient way to extend a data centre or a complete data centre replacement.

In addition to experiencing hyper-scale cloud economics, vCloud Air customers can expect a seamless transition to OVH U.S. with great customer support and increased access to a global network of modern data centers. The existing support/sales organisation customers trust today will continue to service their needs. The current data centres and product selection will remain in place.

Tried and True Partnership

OVH and VMware have been close partners since the launch of OVH’s Dedicated Cloud in 2010. OVH is already a VMware vCloud Air Network partner through OVH’s Dedicated Cloud, which is based on vSphere and vCloud Director technologies. With Dedicated Cloud, professionals benefit from a dedicated infrastructure that is managed by OVH allowing them to concentrate more on their business.
